Rewriting Shakspeare
John Clare Cottage, Peterborough’s nearest literary house, is joining up with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust to promote the first ever National Shakespeare Week in March 2014.
There’s a drop-in workshop for adults (21st March) which will focus on giving some of those old familiar speeches a contemporary spin. As the song says, brush up your Shakespeare, and start quoting him now! If you don’t think the bard is funny or relevant any more, make it happen by writing some of it yourself….
As the same week coincides with World Book Day (21st March) the Clare Cottage staff hope to involve all those who enjoy reading, writing, and getting up on stage.
The sessions will be advertised with the help of the Peterborough Learning Partnership, but interested teachers can also call the Cottage staff direct. A spokesperson said ‘We’re very pleased to be taking part in this national initiative for 2014 - it shows we’re part of the wider UK scene, even though we’re one of the smaller literary houses on the circuit.’
